The dawn of the 21st century has witnessed an explosion of creativity in just about every field of design, from the avant-garde to mass market--and this popular book guides the reader through an array of contemporary movements, styles, and trends. Intelligently and provocatively written, 21st Century Design places the current scene in a historic framework, explores the cultural and economic forces shaping design now and for the future, identifies top designers and trends, and explains the vigorous artistic debates going on among the innovators in architecture, fashion, interiors, and product design.

Journalist, lecturer, and entrepreneur Marcus Fairs was the founding editor of the architecture and design magazine icon and is now editor of online design magazine Dezeen (www.dezeen.com). He wrote about architecture and design for a number of publications, including The Guardian and Condé Nast Traveller, and has won many awards, including Journalist of the Year (2002) and Architectural Journalist of the Year (2004). His documentary on French designer Philippe Starck  was aired on the BBC and in 2007 Marcus devised and curated the Trash Luxe exhibition of recycled design at Liberty's in London.
