The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Robert Ingpen's lush new interpretation of one of the world's most famous stories transports children to the magical kingdom of Oz.
Ingpen captures all the memorable moments and characters of L. Frank Baum's beloved tale in his gorgeous illustrations: the cyclone that whisks Dorothy out of Kansas and into Oz, her perilous journey to the City of Emeralds to meet the Wizard, and her encounters with the Munchkins, Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, Cowardly Lion--and of course, the Wicked Witch of the West. This is an essential edition of a classic novel.
Robert Ingpen began studying illustration and book design at The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. He was recently honored with Membership of the Order of Australia. In 1986 he was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen medal for his contribution to children's literature. He lives in Anglesea, Australia.
“The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was written solely to please children of today. It aspires to being a modernized fairy tale, in which the wonderment and joy are retained and the heartaches and nightmares are left out.” --L. Frank Baum
