Favourite Poems of the Countryside

by Samuel Carr, Jo Bell

Barnes and Noble Indiebound
From the rural life to the changing seasons, the vast woodlands to the seaside, these poems celebrate Britain's idyllic countryside. Beautifully illustrated with nostalgic scenes of England’s pastures, sleepy villages, and dramatic landscapes, this rich anthology includes timeless verses from Shakespeare through Pope and Marvell, to Coleridge, Tennyson, and Wordsworth, right up to Vita Sackville-West and John Betjeman.

Samuel Carr is the editor of a series of anthologies of poetry, including Ode to the Countryside and Ode to Flowers. He was also editor on Classic Hymns and Poems (all published by Batsford).

Jo Bell is an award-winning poet working across the UK with talents from Ian McMillan to Brian Patten and Gwyneth Lewis. She has read her poetry at the Houses of Parliament, Glastonbury Poetry Festival, and the Southbank Centre, as well as in France and Sweden. In 2013 and 2014, the Poetry Society and Canal and River Trust appointed her as the Canal Laureate of the UK.
